Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the countries of the
region on the Comoros

Moroni: In the framework of the implementation of the decisions taken on the
19th June 2007 in Cape Town, by the Ministerial Committee meeting of the
Countries of the Region on the Comoros, the Ministerial delegation led by her
Excellency Doctor Dlamini Zuma, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa,
undertook a Mission on the 24th June 2007 to Comoros in order to resolve the
New crisis between the Union Government and the Autonomous Island authorities
of Anjouan.

The Ministerial delegation composed of South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique,
Mauritius, Seychelles, Kenya and Madagascar held talks with the Union President
and the members of the Government as well as the authorities of Anjouan.

The Ministerial Mission reiterated that the implementation of the decisions
taken on the 19th June 2007 in Cape Town constitutes the appropriate framework
for a lasting solution to the crisis in Comoros.

The Mission demands the authorities of Anjouan to hold a free and fair
Presidential election in compliance with the African Union security plan.

The Ministerial Mission commits itself to continue engaging with all the
Comorian parties to overcome the obstacles impeding the National Reconciliation
Process in the Comoros in conformity with the Fomboni 2001, Beit Salam 2003
Agreements and Union Constitution.
