Pretoria: The Department of Foreign Affairs has been informed by the South
African Consulate General in New York of the death of a South African citizen
on Tuesday, 7 August 2007. The deceased has been identified as Boitumelo
McCallum, 20 years of age.
According to available information the death of McCallum is being treated by
the authorities in the United States of America as a possible homicide and the
police are holding a suspect in the case.
The Department is in the process of rendering consular assistance to the
family of the deceased who are currently en route to New York.
The Department offers its sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones
of the late McCallum.
