The MEC for Community Safety in Gauteng, Mr Firoz Cachalia, will today meet
with the Business Leadership of Marabastad and Pretoria Central Police Station
management, to discuss ways of making the area safer. Marabastad forms part of
Pretoria Business District and the Office of the MEC has recently received
complaints about safety in the area. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss
ways of taking forward an initiative of the Department which looks at
recruiting patrollers from surrounding areas, such as, Atteridgeville,
Mamelodi, Soshanguve, and Akasia, to work with the police in patrolling
Marabastad. The Tshwane Metro Police Department has already volunteered to
provide training for the patrollers. The MEC will use this meeting to get the
Marabastad Business Community on board.
