The Department of Public Enterprises is delighted to be associated with the
Denel Youth Foundation (DYF), through its shareholding of Denel. We all know
that South Africa does not have enough matriculants with higher grade maths and
science. The DYF seeks to address this by offering learners a second chance for
a matriculation with math and science on higher grade.
It is a bold step to ensure that the foundation of our future for South
Africa is firmly rooted in an education that provides further learning
opportunities to these young people. I am confident that at the end of this
year, these learners will have doors opened to them in a variety of professions
that were not on offer to them a year ago.
Well done to Denel Youth Foundation and to the young people willing to
sacrifice an additional year of their youth for a better life for all. I would
also like to commend the Department of Defence who also participate in this
programme, making sure that our defence force offers learning and career
opportunities to this country's youth.
