is made an Order of Court, a Settlement In-Deed

The Minister of Public Enterprises, Alec Erwin is pleased to announce that
the Deed of Settlement, signed on 22 April 2007, between the Department of
Public Enterprises (DPE), Alexkor and RVC was made effective today in the Lands
Claims Court in Cape Town.
The landmark settlement agreement includes:
* restoration of the land claimed
* restoration of the mineral rights by way of transfer of Alexkor's land mining
rights
* lump sum developmental grant of R50 million
* R190 million compensation over three years as reparation payment
* transfer of agricultural and mariculture assets
* establishment of a formal township at Alexander Bay
* environmental rehabilitation.
This is a historic milestone after years of litigation and negotiation.
Minister Erwin conveys his deepest respect and highest regard for the
community's long and just struggle for their rights who persisted in their
quest for land restitution and who have proven their resolve to deliver a
platform for sustainable growth for future generations.
Minister Erwin is encouraged by the tireless effort of the community, DPE
and Alexkor over the past four months to make the settlement implementation a
reality and today the Minister commends the efforts of all who contributed to
making this dream a reality for the people of Richtersveld.
