Limpopo

8 April 2009

Media is invited to the opening of the Queen Modjadji V Lodge in celebration
and honour of Queen Modjadji’s reign and supremacy on Friday, 17 April 2009.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Ms Rejoice
Mabudafhasi will deliver a keynote address during this ceremony.

Through its social responsibility programme, the Department of Environmental
Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) has funded the establishment of the Queen Modjadji V
Lodge as one of community based accommodation facilities within the Mopane
District Municipality.

An amount of R13 million has so far been spent towards the establishment of
this community lodge. When fully operation, this lodge will contribute to local
economic development.

This project has added significant value to tourism development within
Ga-Modjadji, a rural community of over 150 villages renowned for its rich
cultural and natural heritage. Most significantly, this place is home to the
revered rain making legend, Queen Modjadji, who has ruled the Balobedu people
