sustain and to create jobs
20 April 2009
The Department of Public Works and Eveready South Africa are proud to
announce that they have joint forces in the interests of creating local
business opportunities and protecting jobs. Eastern Cape Public Works MEC
Christian Martin will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eveready
Diversified Products.
This agreement stipulates that Public works will procure energy savings
lamps and turbines from Eveready. At the core of the MoU's agenda are issues
relating to energy saving, to sustain and to create jobs, a better price for
sub-contractors and to protect the local economy/industries against the world
economic recession.
Eveready MD, Mr Avijit Das expressed his appreciation to the Department of
Public works as follows: "As a local proudly South African company, and the
only manufacturer of energy saving light bulbs, as well as micro wind turbines,
we are committed to the creation of local jobs and the securing of new age
technology in our region. We are extremely excited to be able to partner with
our local government colleagues in realising this vision."
Eveready produces energy saving light bulbs and Kestrel wind micro wind
turbines along with a range of other products in their local facility in Port
Elizabeth. This exciting agreement will focus on the use of energy saving light
bulbs in local government facilities as well as the installation of micro wind
turbines as part of Public works initiatives, particularly in rural areas.
