Alternative housing to end housing backlog in Nelson Mandela
Metro

7 April 2009

A new housing alternative building technology enabling completion of a house
in three days could end the current Nelson Mandela Metro housing backlog within
a year. The housing back log of 80 000 in the metro can be addressed in a year
(267 days) by using this alternative technology.

Emission alternative building technology is also widely used and successful
in Gauteng and Western Cape provinces. Using emission it is possible to have a
house roofed on the first day and occupied on the third day making it possible
for contractors to deliver between 50 and 75 houses a week leading to 300
houses completed a month. Only 150 houses are completed a month using brick and
mortar.

If there is any items omitted the house will not stand leaving no room for
shoddy workmanship during the construction of a house using this product.

All the material used in emission system is quality material which is
suitable for all types of houses. Special features include a plascon waterproof
paint, meranti doors, precast door frames, aluminium windows, internal plaster,
electrical fittings and kitchen furniture which comes as part of a package.

When using this technology, a house is plastered internally and externally
which will be good for communities who can’t afford to make improvements in
their homes. Emission building technology also offers good opportunity for
vulnerable groups like women, youth and disabled persons to participate in the
building of houses in big numbers.

The MEC will be showing to the media this new technology house in Port
Elizabeth. On this day, a 90 year old disabled woman will be given a house with
a special ramp.

The media is invited to the unveiling of the Emission Building technology
and handover of a house to a disabled woman, all in Port Elizabeth on.
