The Eastern Cape Health Department swept up four awards at the Premier's
Balasela Awards held at the Christian Centre on Friday, 7 December 2007.
The awards are in recognition of departments and projects in the Eastern
Cape that have excelled in delivering service to people and being innovative in
the delivery of that service.
Kouga LSA Manager Dumisani Ntuli received an award on behalf of Humansdorp
Hospital for being the only hospital in the country to have a fully functional
Public Private Partnership. The partnership is between the hospital and the
Life Health Care Group.
The Chief Executive Officer of Madwaleni hospital, Mdaba also received an
award on behalf of the Hospital for best practices in HIV programmes.
Nomvula Kwadjo also did the Eastern Cape Department of Health proud by
sweeping up an award for excelling in her project of 'Saving Mothers Saving
Babies.'
Her programme focuses on the development and monitoring the implementation
of preventative programmes for the maternal units, rendering management and
advisory services to the maternal units, ensuring the acquisition of best
equipment for maternal units and facilitating recruitment and training of
personnel on areas under the project.
Njaba received an award for dedication in the management of Health Services
at the Chris Hani District Municipality. Her area was recognised for being the
best administered area in terms of health administration.
