The Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDOH) postponed the final Midwifery
examination paper one at the East London campus's Lilitha College of Nursing
meant to be written today.
The postponement affected the fourth year students and it was elicited by
allegations of a leak which the Health authorities deemed very serious.
According to Health's Director of Communications, Siyanda Manana, a
cautionary approach by the department was necessary in order to protect the
credibility of the examination and the image of the department.
Manana further went on to reassure the students that the department would do
all it can to ensure that the postponed examination is written shortly and the
students are not adversely affected by the postponement of the examination
paper.
The department encourages people to inform it about such irregularities so
that it can take quick corrective action to quell such ills.
What was encouraging was the fact that an internal health departmental
official was alerted about the alleged leak last night and action taken was
done in consultation with the Heads of the three Universities of Affiliation,
being the Walter Sisulu University, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
and the University of Fort Hare, according to the Head of Lilitha College's
Zameka Ngele.
The Health department will institute an investigation into the alleged leak
as a matter of urgency, Manana said.
