Complex

16 April 2009

The East London Hospital Complex (ELHC) facilitated communication breakfast
launch at the King David Hotel in East London on 7 April 2009, with the theme
“Together we can do more.”

The purpose for the event was to formulate a turn around communication
strategy that will change the negative publicity and perceptions by the media,
positioning and revitalising the image of the complex both internally and
externally, by carefully creating a proper use of formal and informal
communication channels to disseminate information about complex attainments,
challenges and future plans.

The Frere Hospital Board Chairperson Dr. Denis Smyth expressed that the
institution should set the value system which should be aligned with their
strategic planning. “Our stakeholders should associate ELHC with these words
commitment, loving, caring, passionate, homely, star free, accessible, bright,
excellence, brilliant, warm, celebrated, leading, empathy, shelter, memories,
protection, love, courage, humility, shows health sympathy, patience,
understand,” he said.

Chief Director, Quality Assurance, Dr. Mjamba congratulated ELHC results of
the National Department of Health and Council for Health Service Accreditation
of Southern Africa (COHSASA) which endorsed achievement by the complex.

“COHSASA’s accreditation survey demonstrated that Cecilia Makiwane Hospital
baseline triggers improved from 48% to 75%, Frere Hospital moved from 48% to
76%, showing that quality service delivery is attributed to good and supportive
leadership,” Dr. Mjamba said.

ELHC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Luvuyo Mosana thanked the inputs and
integrated support from various stakeholders.

“Feedback would assist in creating various communication platforms to
internal staff, the communities we serve and external stakeholders aiming at
turning around the negative public image of the complex,” Mr Mosana said.
