Health's countdown to 2010 Federation of International Football
Association (Fifa) World Cup

Eastern Cape's Health Chief Operations Officer Mr PG Zitumane hosted a
meeting at the Pine Lodge in Port Elizabeth on 22 November 2007 to assess the
state of readiness of the health institutions in the Eastern Cape especially
Port Elizabeth being the host city.

Delegates from Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, 2010 Unit of Sports, Arts
and Culture, Staff of Port Elizabeth Complex, Health Infrastructure, Emergency
Medical Services, Human Resources Development, Special Projects and
Communications were present at the meeting.

The delegates inspected the Livingstone, Provincial and Dora Nginza
Hospitals. The delegates also caught a glimpse from a distance of the stadium
being built in Port Elizabeth. Mr Ndongeni of the Nelson Mandela Bay
Municipality made a presentation on the stadium readiness.

Emphasis was also put on readiness of facilities which were on the way to
the host city, like Nompumelelo Hospital in Peddie, Settlers Hospital in
Grahamstown and Port Alfred Hospital.

Dr Wagner's presentation focused on skills needed and training in order to
be ready. The meeting also touched on the issues of volunteerism and
moonlighting. Mr Maharaj presented on Emergency Medical Services drive in
recruiting personnel in order to meet the envisaged 2010 demand. He enlightened
the meeting on a need to have paramedics in the public health sector in order
to be ready for 2010 as well as the need to have Rescue Response Vehicles.
