production, 18 Feb

Media release

17 February 2009

Following successful trials of vegetable production at Boloto village in the
Lukhanji municipality, the Department of Agriculture will host an information
day aimed at encouraging locals to invest by tilting their land. According to
extension and advisory officials serving the area the majority of the community
in the area is not tilting their land despite the potential of good vegetable
production.

The recent trials have shown positive results and the department aims to
exploit this opportunity to lure the community to actively participate in
agriculture in a bid to chase back the frontiers of poverty and enhance
community growth.
The area is also affected by the current drought condition and the officials
aim to utilise the information day to educate the community about means of
“harvesting” rain. Stakeholders from different sectors of the agriculture
community will be at hand to give advice to the community about agricultural
matters and members of the media can have some insight on the state of
agriculture by attending the event.
