Co-operative in Mpumalanga
13 February 2009
The Deputy Minister of Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), Ms
Elizabeth Thabethe will visit the Fundani-Kusile Vegetable Co-operative at
Troya Village, Skilpadfontien, Mpumalanga on Monday, 16 February 2009, at
09h00. The media is invited to attend.
The visit is part of Deputy Minister Thabethe's drive to visit co-operatives
that have benefited from the department's Co-operatives Incentives Scheme
(CIS). The purpose of the visits is to acquire first-hand information on
progress that these co-operatives have made and challenges that they may have
experienced since they received funding from the dti.
Thabethe visited the Melokuhle Manufacturing and Décor Co-operative in
Pretoria last week and will conclude the visits with an exhibition and
conference which will be attended by about two hundred co-operatives, the
majority of which are CIS beneficiaries, in Wolmaransstad, North West on 20
February 2009.
The CIS was created to reinforce the initiatives of government towards the
development and promotion of co-operatives as a viable form of enterprise in
South Africa. The CIS is one of government's support measures towards realising
the 2004 to 2014 objectives presented in the Government's Co-operatives
Development Strategy. The incentive scheme targets registered co-operatives
operating in the emerging economy, which is eligible for a total grant not
exceeding R300 000.
