The Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Enver Surty, together with the Deputy
Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Malusi Gigaba, will on Friday, 25 May visit Motheo
Further Education and Training (FET) College in Thaba Nchu as part of the Youth
and Democracy Education Campaign.
The Youth and Democracy Education Campaign is a partnership between the
Departments of Education and Home Affairs. It is geared towards ensuring that
young South Africans participate in the country's democratic processes, and
also promoting youth access and utilisation of government services.
Home Affairs is responsible for amongst others, Independent Electoral
Commission (IEC). Therefore it is in the best interest of the Department to
ensure that young people are conscientised and encouraged to participate in all
democratic processes including the elections.
On the day of the event, young people will be given the opportunity to
interact with both the deputy ministers and other government officials. They
will also be able to apply for birth certificates, identity documents, etc.,
