The Deputy Minister of Education, Enver Surty will, on Monday, 13 August
2007, speak at a Teacher Recruitment Campaign hosted by the Department of
Education at the University of the North West (Potchefstroom Campus) at
11h00.
The Deputy Minister will talk to students about the Fundza Lushaka ('Teach
the Nation') bursary scheme designed to promote teaching as a preferred choice
for able and committed South Africans.
Themed 'Teaching to produce responsible citizen' the campaign aims to:
* increase the pool of highly qualified teachers in priority area
* encourage matriculants to choose teaching as a profession of first
choice
* encourage mature citizen wanting to switch to a more fulfilling career
* target former teachers who want to return to the profession
The campaign will run at all South African universities
