Premier Rasool and MEC Jacobs will tomorrow honour top provincial athletes
who have performed with distinction nationally and internationally during the
previous sport calendar at a glittering function to be held at the Boland
Cricket grounds. The media is invited to capture crowning moments of our local
stars in various categories, including sportsman and woman of the year.
This year MEC's Special Award goes to the late Sijaji "Kid Molly" Ncula a
boxing legend from Gugulethu who campaigned as a professional until the late
sixties. Kid Molly succumbed to death in late February this year after a long
illness. There will be a roll of honour, posthumously recognising the
contribution of past leaders in developing sport like Gerald Lakay, Phil
Pansegrouw, Willie Beukes, Margaret Dunn and Stephen Kawie. The awards will,
for the first time recognise technical excellence.
