North West Ready for Confederations Cup

18 February 2009

North West Premier, Edna Molewa, says the North West is ready to host the
Confederations Cup that will be held in June this year. The Premier made this
statement today ahead of the visit to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium (Rustenburg)
by the FIFA inspection team which takes place tomorrow.

Molewa personally visited Royal Bafokeng Stadium last week to see for herself
the progress registered with regard to the upgrading of the Stadium in line
with FIFA requirements. "I am satisfied that as a province and Rustenburg, we
are on course and ready to deliver on out pledge to stage the best soccer World
Cup ever," said Molewa.

The stadium is currently being upgraded from a 39 000 seater to a 45 000
seater. The provincial government is confident that after the visit, the FIFA
inspection team will declare that Rustenburg is ready to host both the
Confederations Cup and the FIFA 2010 World Cup.

The provincial government recognizes that despite the progress registered thus
far, more work still needs to be done.

For the Confederations Cup, Royal Bafokeng Stadium will host the following
crucial games:

* 14 June 2009: New Zealand vs Spain
* 17 June 2009: South Africa vs New Zealand
* 21 June 2009: Egypt vs USA

The provincial government reiterates its call to the people of the North West
to support the provincial effort to stage a successful tournament.
