The Skills Development and Training Working Group in the North West
Provincial Growth and Development Strategy (PGDS) will hold a Skills
Development Conference in Rustenburg from Monday, 8 October 2007, until
Wednesday, 10 October 2007.
North West Premier Edna Molewa will deliver the keynote address on the first
day of the conference.
The purpose of the conference is, among others, to:
* allow different constituencies of the PGDS to report on the implementation
of interventions to address their critical and scarce skills needs in the
province
* determine to which extent organisations within the economic sector in the
province are complying with National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) and the
PGDS in line with Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa
(AsgiSA) or Joint Initiative on Priority Skills Acquisition (Jipsa)
* evaluate the impact of accredited learning on the unemployed in the North
West province.
The conference will furthermore allow Sector Education and Training
Authorities (Setas) to report on the success rate regarding accreditation of
Training Service Providers and on the creation of institutes of sectoral or
occupational excellence in the province.
The theme for this conference is "towards employability and sustainable
livelihood through skills development".
Participants range from school learners to those in Further Education and
Training institutions, key players in the different economic industries in the
province, government officials including municipal officials, non-governmental
organisations, business and elected public representatives.
