Mafikeng: The North West Province has completed the Provincial Archives and
Library Headquarters building, which will house all historical documents and at
the same time give future generation an understanding of democracy, identity
and history.

This was announced today by the North West Premier, Edna Molewa, during her
State of the Province Address before the Provincial Legislature.

"Libraries are central in giving our children and communities access to
knowledge, space to study and access to stimulating toys to assist in early
childhood development (ECD). The library service is fundamental in assisting
learners in school and higher education with access to a warm and safe
environment in which to do their homework, projects and study," she said.

The Premier further indicated that the building of Kraaipan and Seolong
Museums and two cultural centres in Mogwase and Maubane would assist in the
development of the creative industry and in social cohesion as well as nation
building, and in the process creating an understanding of the nation's
identity.

She added that the Gateway to Freedom Legacy Project had started to harness
the people's history and develop a liberation struggle tourism route. "In the
next few years, this project has a potential to generate interest in the
province and improve our relationships with Botswana," she explained.

On top of that R85 million of the archives and headquarter building, Molewa
said about 18 libraries have been completed since 1994, and had benefited
children from poor households, and this she indicated would ensure that the
vision lives on.
