North West Government Communicators to gather in
Rustenburg

10 July 2007

Government communicators across the North West province will meet in
Rustenburg from this Sunday until Tuesday, at a government communication
lekgotla that is held annually by the provincial government.

More than 200 communicators from provincial departments, parastatals and
municipalities are expected to attend. This year the focus will be on
strengthening government's capacity to communicate effectively.

North West Premier Edna Molewa will address government communicators on
Sunday evening. She is expected to emphasise the need for government to
communicate coherent and consistent messages. The Chairperson of Chairperson of
South African National Editors' Forum (Sanef) Jovial Rantao has also been
invited and will address communicators on Monday evening.

One of the main concerns of the provincial government is that persistence of
a discourse of non-delivery when all evidence points improved delivery.
Recently, a Markinor showed that the North West is the second best performing
province in the country, and that in the area of education, health provision
and social grants payments, the North West was leading the country.

The North West Communication Lekgotla is a platform for government
communicators in the province to strategise collectively and to share best
practices.
