D Pule to table 2007/08 policy and budget speech, 29 May

Department of Agriculture and Land Administration MEC Dina Pule
to table the 2007/08 policy and budget speech

25 May 2007

In an effort to make agriculture fashionable and refocus the sector,
Agriculture and Land Administration MEC Dina Pule will table the 2007/08 policy
and budget Speech in the Mpumalanga Legislature as follows:

Date: 29 May 2007
Time: 14h15 onwards
Venue: Mpumalanga Legislature Building, Riverside

The budget speech sets the policy priority areas for the year. Among others
the MEC will make pronouncements on the re-introduction of the Nguni cattle
breed in the province, a partnership project between the Industrial Development
Corporation (IDC), the department, emerging farmers and universities. MEC Pule
will also announce improved efforts to assist emerging farmers. The MEC's
vision is to see emerging farmers growing into commercial farmers whilst
subsistence farmers will grow to meet the food needs of their community. This
year's speech also gives much prominence to environmental issues such as
greening the province and recycling. The speech's theme is "fighting poverty by
making agriculture fashionable, whilst greening the province and ensuring that
communities make money from waste."

A gala dinner at Emnotweni Arena will follow the budget speech presentation.
Media practitioners are invited to the dinner as well.
