Tambo
1 February 2007
It is with profound sense of grief and sorrow that Northern Cape Provincial
Government learnt of the passing of Mrs Adelaide Tambo, widow of former African
National Congress (ANC) president, the late Oliver Reginald Tambo on Wednesday
evening.
The Premier of the Northern Cape Ms D Peters, on behalf of the Northern Cape
Provincial Government and its people, hereby expresses her heartfelt
condolences and sincerest sympathy to the entire Tambo family and relatives on
the passing of Mrs Tambo.
Mama Tambo contributed immensely to the struggle as an activist in her own
right. She devoted her entire adult life to the struggle against apartheid,
more so to the total emancipation of women and the creation of a democratic
non-racial and non-sexist society.
Not only was she an activist, be also a pillar of strength and support to
her late husband and leader of the ANC under the most difficult times during
the dark days of apartheid.
As a people, we share the sorrow and grief of the Tambo family and trust
that God will fortify and strengthen them, through this sad moment.
