Mpumalanga Department of Roads and Transport MEC Mr DD Mabuza will honour
heavy vehicle drivers who excelled during the provincial Driver of the Year
Competition (DOTY) on Saturday evening.
The event is in line with the department's road safety strategy of promoting
safety on the province's road. Among others, women drivers will feature
prominently as they are also participating in the Rigid Bus category.
The event follows a process of selecting best drivers in the three regions
of the province.
The aim of the DOTY competition is to find the best drivers in the province;
and to promote and stimulate drivers within the heavy vehicle industry.
Other categories include the male bus category, rigid, articulated trucks
and novice categories.
The competition will culminate into a national DOTY competition to be held
in October in Bloemfontein and thereafter, the winners will participate during
the international competition in Italy.
