The North West Department of Developmental Local Government and Housing in
collaboration with the Provincial Youth Commission and the Maquassi Hills Local
Municipality will host a Youth Development Summit in Wolmaranstad on Thursday,
6 September 2007.
The objective of the summit, to be held under the theme "Empowering future
leaders for participation in the economy," is to:
* create awareness and encourage young people to participate in issues of
local government
* discuss the integration on youth development programme /project in the
Integrated Development Plan (IDP) processes
* seek ways of strengthening the relationship between the youth and the council
of Maquassi hills
MEC for Local Government and Housing, Howard Yawa had committed his
department to support the municipality in the implementation of development
programmes and to deal with the challenge of unemployment among youth.
The Summit is scheduled to commence at 08h00 at Bona-Bona Game Farm outside
Wolmaranstad. The keynote speaker will be the MEC for Economic Affairs and
Tourism, Darkey Africa.
The summit is also supported by the Southern District Municipality, the
Departments of Economic Affairs and Tourism, Agriculture, Conservation and
Environment, Health and Social Development.
