8 April 2009

The Premier of Limpopo, Mr Cassel Mathale has learned with shock the news of
the passing away of the Minister of Communications, Dr Ivy
Matsepe-Casaburri.

Minister Matsepe-Casaburri will always be remembered for the roles she
played as first woman Premier of the Free State Province, first black woman
Chairperson of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and; first
black woman chairperson of Sentech. “Her skills in information communication
technology were most valuable for our government and we wish to thank her for
the contribution she made, especially during the formative years of our
democracy,” said Premier Mathale.

“We will never forget her leadership and the sterling role she played during
the process of transforming the country’s information communications technology
industry, and especially her inputs in liberating our airwaves. There can be no
doubt that the country has become poorer without her contribution” Premier
Mathale added.

“On behalf of government and the people of Limpopo, we extend our deep and
sincere condolences to her family, friends, cabinet colleagues, the African
National Congress (ANC) and every person who was touched by her contribution to
the cause of our people.”

May her soul rest in peace!
