C Dowry to visit Vinitaly expo with winemakers, 28 Mar to 2 Apr

New emerging winemakers to be exposed in Italy at the largest
wine show in the world

27 March 2007

As Minister of Agriculture in the Western Cape, I will lead a delegation of
10 Previously Disadvantaged Individual (PDI) wine companies and members from
South African Black Vintners Association from the Western Cape to promote and
market Western Cape wines at the Vinitaly Expo in Verona, Italy from 28 March-2
April 2007.

Vinitaly is the landmark event for the Italian and international wine world
with 144 039 local visitors and 33 120 international visitors from 101
countries. The largest wine show in the world has progressively and
increasingly become a mainstay, even on an international scale by welcoming
innovations and appealing to operators not only as a trade exhibition but also
and especially as a full-scale reference "event."

Vinitaly this year will welcome 4 200 exhibitors over a net area of almost
80 thousand square metres - focusing on all the needs of all operators in the
field: producers, importers, distributors, caterers, technicians, journalists
and opinion leaders.

For the first time South Africa and particularly the Western Cape will have
a presence through the initiative of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture
who sponsored a Stand at the Expo for the duration of the Expo.

The South African stand will be an ideal showcase of PDI Western Cape wines
and will receive previously unheard of exposure to approximately 150 000
Italian and international visitors expected this year. This will showcase Black
Economic Empowerment to an international audience.

It is of huge importance to note that the majority of the delegation will be
women. The delegation will consist of:

* African Roots, Vivian Kleinhans
* Lindiwe Wines, Libby Petersen
* M"Hudi Wines, Diale Rangaka
* Kuyasa Wines, Crosby Sibeko
* Vunani Wines, Vumile Nkewu
* Bouwland, Onetia Africa
* Phumlani Wines, Nomsa Tiyo
* Women in Wines, Beverly Farmer
* Blouvlei Wines, Abelia Lawrence
* SA Wine Industry Trust Thembakazi Masiza (project co-ordinator)
