Western Cape
16 February 2009
At a very constructive quarterly meeting with Agri Wes-Cape, we have had
amongst other issues also discussions around the upcoming general election on
22 April 2009.
In order to ensure that we serve the community at best and to ensure that
all political parties receive equal treatment on farms during the election I
have requested that Agri Wes-Cape assist us in the matter.
Agri Wes-Cape had discussions with the provincial structures of the
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and further discussions in the near
future to reconfirm the protocol of farm access and assisting people to vote on
the election day will follow.
It was agreed that producers would be contacted by political parties to
arrange visits to farms or community centres near farms in the run up of the
election. It was further agreed that this will take place after hours, once the
necessary arrangements were made. No canvassing will be allowed during working
hours.
It was also agreed that, as in the past, producers would assist their
workers with transport to polling stations on the day of the election. A proper
time schedule will be worked out, with presiding officers, for the workers of
the various farms to visit the polling stations during the course of the day.
This should allow for an easy flow of voters at polling stations.
Any complaints should be directed to the IEC, Agri Wes-Cape and the Western
Cape Ministry of Agriculture.
