series of regional roadshows
27 October 2006
The Minister of Minerals and Energy, Ms Buyelwa Sonjica, is holding a series
of regional roadshows. The main purpose of the roadshow is to address what
seems to be a misunderstanding especially around the implementation of Minerals
and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) and the process of
licensing.
The first phase of these roadshows is conducted nationally. The second and
final phase of these roadshows will be aimed at international stakeholders,
potential investors and interested parties in November 2006.
As part of the roadshows, the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) hopes
to provide not only clarity on our policies, but also provide a critical
assessment of, and substantive discussion by all stakeholders on the mining
industryâs progress, challenges and key learningâs to date, especially with
regards to the implementation of MPRDA.
These are aimed primarily at informing Department of Minerals and Energyâs
stakeholders, companies within the sectors that it governs, and the general
public, of the progress which the Department is making in terms of its
programmes for the year, and the implementation of some of its legislation, in
particular, the MPRDA. During these sessions mining operators will be offered
an opportunity to voice their concerns in respect of implementation issues
relating to the processing of applications.
The forthcoming roadshow will be held in Gauteng province.
