Provincial officials on a visit to the Kwandebele Science School in
Siyabuswa

Deputy President Baleka Mbete will tomorrow Wednesday, 14 January 2009,
visit the Kwandebele Science School in Siyabuswa. The Deputy President will be
accompanied by Education Minister Naledi Pandor, Premier Makwetla, the
provincial MEC and other officials. The visit is part of the departments 'Back
To School Campaign'.
The school was established in 1993 by the Department of Education of the
former KwaNdebele Home Land. It was specifically built for promoting
mathematics and science.
* In 2004 the school was selected as a Dinaledi School by the National
Department of Education.
* In 2005 the school obtained a 100 percent matric pass rate.
* In 2006 the school obtained a 100 percent matric pass rate.
* In 2007 the school obtained a 97,1 percent matric pass rate.
* In 2008 the school obtained a 93,2 percent matric pass rate.
Despite these achievements the school does still have challenges.
The Deputy President will meet with the principal of the school, the school
governing body as well as with educators and learners. The Deputy President is
also scheduled to address pupils at the school.
