Ms Brigitte Mabandla, MP, Minister for Justice and Constitutional
Development, invites the media to join her where she will be hosting a Moot
Court competition at the Cape High Court to mark the occasion of the
Department's Budget Vote on 29 May 2007.
Date: 28 May 2007
Time: 17h30 for 18h00
Venue: Cape High Court, Cape Town
The mock criminal trial is part of the Department's continuous effort to
transform the legal profession and legal scholarship. The event aims to
encourage law students from the Universities of the Western Cape and
Stellenbosch to have a theoretical appreciation for the law and to apply the
law process in a practical situation. The theft case trial will consist of a
counsel and witnesses, nominated from participating universities and local
practitioners from different legal associations will execute couching duties.
Western Cape Judge NJ Yekiso will be the presiding officer in the trial. Prizes
will be awarded to the best participants in the trial. High school pupils as
well as orphanages in the Western Cape region were also invited as observers. A
finger luncheon will follow the event.
