Cele condemns the shooting at Nkandla pension payout leaving 16
people injured

People injured KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community safety and Liaison
Mr Bheki Cele has robustly condemned the shooting of the Fidelity car that
happened at Lindela Store in Inkandla pension payout this morning 1 April 2009,
leaving 16 victims injured.

According to preliminary reports received, it is alleged that the suspects
were standing in the line like everyone else, when they started shooting
randomly towards the car with cash. It is alleged that the suspects took all
the boxes of money and guns belonging to the security guards and fled the scene
with five small cars. 16 people were shot, two being security guards and two
seriously injured reported to be a 70 year old man and woman aged 80. The
police that were at the scene together with the Emergency Medical Rescue
Services (EMRS) found empty cartridges belonging to an AK47 gun.

Later during the day at Jameson Drift Bridge near Zombe, three cars (two
Toyota Tazz and Ford Focus) that were used as escape cars were recovered
abandoned and had been reported stolen. A case of robbery and attempted murder
has been open pending police investigation. “This criminal act by these
hooligans is unspeakable and appalling .The police will work tirelessly to
ensure that these perpetrators are found and put behind bars where they belong.
The police will leave no stone unturned in bringing these criminals down,” said
