KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele
will present his Budget Vote speech for the financial year 2007/08 at the
KwaZulu-Natal legislature on Thursday, 26 April 2007, at 10h00.
In his budget speech MEC Cele is expected to give a report on the
achievements and progress of both departments in the past financial year and
furthermore outline challenges ahead that are facing departments particularly
budget constraints.
MEC Cele will dedicate this year budget speech to the late President-General
of the African National Congress (ANC) Chief Albert Luthuli. This year marks
the 40th anniversary of the death of this first African Nobel prize winner.
As part of the Department's commitment in championing Non-Motorised
Transport (NMT). MEC Cele and Head of Department Dr KB Mbanjwa together with
the members of the Legislature and learners will ride bicycles from corner of
Peter Kerchhoff Street (Chapel) and Langalibalele Street (Longmarket) to the
Legislature at 08h00.
Among other aspects Cele's speech will include the following:
* road infrastructure
* Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)
* Taxi Recapitalisation Programme (TRP)
* build-up to 2010 World Cup
* road access / maintenance and construction
* traffic management
* community based programmes.
MEC Cele will host a press briefing at 13h00 and cocktail session for the
members of Parliament, dignitaries and members of the media at the Sobantu
Community Hall at 18h30.
