will host freight Transport workshop at The Edwards Protea Hotel, Durban (South
Beach)
4 October 2006
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele
will host a freight transport workshop on Thursday, 5 October 2006, to address
all freight stakeholders on issues relating to rail transport and heavy motor
vehicle usage in KwaZulu-Natal.
Last year the department of transport hosted a Freight Summit in
Pietermaritzburg where the MEC highlighted some of the major freight transport
challenges in the province. Cele is also expected to dwell more on issues of
safety on the road since this year has seen an increase in accidents involving
heavy motor vehicles. Cele will further address the stakeholders on issues of
empowerment with the freight sector, issues of HIV and AIDS, overloading and
other related matters
There will be extensive law enforcement activities which will be targeting
heavy motor vehicles in particular during and after the workshop.
