KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele
has expressed his deepest shock and condolences to the families of eight
victims killed in a gruesome accident that took place along R102 Nonoti area in
the early hours of this morning 13 March 2009.
Preliminary reports reveal that two bakkies were involved in a head-on
collision at R102 Darnall Bridge at Nonoti in Kwa-Dukuza. One Isuzu bakkie had
six passengers and the second bakkie a Hyundai is alleged to have three
passengers. One bakkie was overtaking causing a head-on collision, seven adults
and one child totalling eight were killed at the scene of the accident and one
unidentified child is critically injured and is in Kwa-Dukuza hospital
receiving medical attention. The Isuzu bakkie was travelling from Kwa-Dukuza to
Tugela at Newarch and the Hyundai was travelling from Tugela to Kwa-Dukuza the
deceased are all at Kwa Dukuza Mortuary
âI wish to express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and
friends of those who have lost their lives in this horrific accident, however
we urge all motorists to be extra careful on roads and to just do right at all
times, motorists should obey the rules of the road to avoid human error
accidents due to negligence. Such accidents can be avoided if the drivers are
extra cautious and keeping to the speed limit exercise patients,â said
Cele.
