KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele
will tomorrow (1 June 2007) attend the memorial service of eight people who
passed away in the horrific accident that took place on the R34 in Gluckstad
between Melmoth and Vryheid. The service will be held at 10:00 am at the Cecil
Emmet Hall in Vryheid.
It is alleged that the accident took place on the early hours of Monday
(28/05/07) and it involved three vehicles which collided gruesomely into each
other, leaving seven people dead, two in a critical condition and two others
sustaining serious injuries. Unfortunately another person passed away yesterday
at the hospital bringing the death toll to eight.
"It is a sad reality that my department is faced with a challenge of
frequently educating people about road safety but such horrific accidents
testifies that our efforts go in vain as people's mindsets don't want to
change; may the souls of those who passed away rest in peace," said Cele.
