Agriculture and Land Affairs to host African Pre-Conference of Rural
Women, 19 to 22 Apr

4th World Congress of Rural Women (WCRW)

The Ministry for Agriculture and Land Affairs cordially invites members of
the media to the 4th World Congress of Rural Women. This is an event held every
four years under various specific themes. It started in Australia in 1994 and
was later hosted by the United States of America in 1998, followed by Spain in
2002. This year is Africa's turn.

The Congress will afford rural women in particular, the opportunity to
reflect on the progress made towards the realising the Millennium Development
Goals of the World Food Summit which committed all countries to halve poverty
by 2014. Among other things, the Congress will also discuss multi-sectoral
issues affecting the development of rural women in the world. It will be
preceded by the Pan African Pre-Conference of Rural Women to formulate the
African position to the WCRW.
