The learning process is set to change forever for pupils of two rural
Ntabankulu schools in the former Transkei after they were presented with 40
computers by Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana on Friday, 17 September
2007.
Handing out the computers during a colourful ceremony held at King
Ntsikayezwe Sigcawu's Lwandlolubomvu Great Place, Minister Membathisi Mdladlana
urged the pupils and staff of Ntsikayezwe and Ntabankulu Senior Secondary
Schools to make full use of the units to improve their studies.
The Minister said "the donation would not only boost the local learners'
studies but would also go a long way towards opening the doors of learning to
many disadvantaged youths of the area, as long envisaged by both the Freedom
Charter and the country's Constitution."
Although the two schools have been in existence for a collective 50 years,
it will be the very first time that computer technology forms part of the
pupils' learning process.
The donation follows a R4,5 million present that Minister Mdladlana made a
year ago to Chief Sigcawu as part of the department's National Skills
Development Strategy.
The money has since been helping many youths through scholarships and
bursaries and in the creation of employment opportunities.
