10 December 2007

Labour department officials in the Eastern Cape will tomorrow, Tuesday
conduct career guidance lessons to learners of the local schools in Ntabankulu
in the former Transkei as part of the R4,5 million skills development project
that was launched there earlier this year.

The counselling is aimed at preparing and educating the more than 100
beneficiaries on making right career choices on completion of their skills
training. Sponsored by the National Skills Fund, the project empowers the
learners of the Lwandlolubomvu and Ntabankulu areas with Information Technology
skills and also entails bursaries to at least 50 of them, while most have
already been guaranteed internship placements at various government departments
at the beginning of next year.

During his two visits to the area this year, Labour Minister Membathisi
Mdladlana donated 40 computers to two high schools as part of the empowerment
programme. Participants can contact Eastern Cape Labour department head Andile
Sipengane on 043 701 3128 or 082 929 7963 for further details.
