Local government revenue and expenditure: First quarter local government Section 71 report for the period: 1 July 2018 – 30 September 2018

National Treasury has today released local government’s revenue and expenditure data for the first quarter of the 2018/19 financial year, as well as spending on conditional grants for the same period. This report covers the first quarter of the municipal financial year ending on 30 September 2018.

The National Treasury has published the 2018 BRICS Finance and Central Banks Outcomes Document (the Outcomes Document). The Outcomes Document was jointly produced by BRICS Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors (FMCBGs) in order to take stock of the outcomes achieved under the “BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution”.

This process of consultation, which included the Presidential NHI Consultative meeting of the 24th August 2018, has enabled Government to ensure that all considered views are available for the review of the draft Bill.

Treasury hosts media workshop on Medium Term Budget Policy, 23 Oct

MTBPS 2018: Media Workshop

As part of equipping journalists with information to help them with their reporting of the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) and related issues, Treasury will host a media workshop on 23 October 2018. The workshop will discuss, among others, government compensation data, and the Employment Tax Incentive since its inception to now, the impact it has had on job creation, and its future.

National Treasury today publishes the Financial Sector Laws Amendment Bill of 2018 for public comment

The Financial Sector Laws Amendment Bill of 2018, which has been approved by Cabinet, gives effect to proposals contained in the discussion document: Strengthening South Africa’s Resolution Framework for Financial Institutions released on 13 August 2015 and the deposit insurance discussion policy document: Designing a Deposit Insurance Scheme for South Africa released on 30 May 2017.

Constitutional Court Case (Ms Rosemary Hunter vs FSB)      

The National Treasury welcomes the judgement by the Constitutional Court dismissing the appeal by former Financial Services Board (FSB) Deputy-Executive Officer (DEO) Rosemary Hunter to procure yet another investigation into the cancellations project implemented by the FSB between 2007 and 2013. Under the project, over 4 600 pension funds without properly constituted boards were cancelled by the Registrar in terms of section 271 of the Pension Funds Act (PFA).
