World Fisheries Day celebrations to be hosted in Port Elizabeth

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is hosting a World Fisheries Day celebration in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape on 29 November 2018. The theme of this event is focused on Small-Scale Fisheries and Aquaculture under the Operation Phakisa initiative.

World Fisheries day is celebrated every year in November throughout the world by fishing industry and communities to highlight the importance of maintaining the world’s fisheries and their critical importance to human lives and ecosystems.

Sharp attention will be drawn to the Small Scale Fisheries Sector, Operation Phakisa which serves as a vehicle to accelerate the development of aquaculture in the country and the protection of South Africa’s marine resources.
