North West Tourism hands over Orkney Hotel Schools to Celeste Holdings for renovations

Work to renovate the Orkney Hotel School begins

The Department of Tourism in the North West has handed over the Orkney Hotel Schools to Celeste Holdings to start with the renovations. The building which was donated by Anglo Gold Ashanti will be in a habitable state in the next six months.

The tenders to renovate the building intended for utilisation as the third Hotel School in the Province in Dr, Kenneth Kaunda District was awarded at 13.7 million recently. Work will commence on in December or early January as according to the appointed contractor.

The portion of the building valued at 3.7 million comprising of office building, the house and kitchen has since been secured by security company contracted by the North West Tourism Board, to avoid vandalism, while awaiting renovations that will restore it to be habitable and ready for learning and training.

The envisaged Hotel School will be developing and training young people on hotel administration, hospitality and many other courses related to the Tourism industry.

The Department continues to constantly engage with Anglo Gold Ashanti on progress made and other processes.

The MEC for Department of Tourism in the North West Province said that her Department remains committed to training youth in the province. Mohono further continues to praise Anglo Gold Ashanti for the kind donation to her Department.

“Working together and very closely with the private sector answers government’s call for Public Private Partnership. We can only do much better if we work together in creating Jobs, Educating young people and for Tourism development in the province. The Hotel school will greatly assist in producing future Chefs and other careers in the Growing tourism sector,” said Mohono.

The Tender will further benefit locals as most the material that will be used during the renovation will be procured locally and priority in terms of Jobs will be given to young local unemployed youth.
