Transport Deputy Minister to open a multimillion rand rural access road in Vhembe Limpopo province
The Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi together with the MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in Limpopo Mr Namane Masemola will on Sunday, 18 October 2020 officially open the Musekwa Rural Access Road (D3671 road) in Musekwa village, Limpopo province.
The 3km rural access road was built by the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure through funding from the national Department of Transport`s Labour Intensive Rural Roads Programme.
This programme is in line with the Presidential Economic Stimulus package for the maintenance, rehabilitation and upgrading of roads.
The programme aims to improve the economic and social conditions of rural communities through the construction and maintenance of rural road infrastructure. It also creates jobs for rural communities.
The opening of the road, which cost more than R23 million to construct forms part of the October Transport Month (OTM) campaign for 2020.
The project resulted in fifty two (52) jobs for the local people and it also benefited local contractors.
There will also be stakeholder engagements by the Deputy Minister and also law enforcement operations.
The Deputy Minister will be joined by the MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Ms Mavhungu Lerule- Ramakhanya, Mayors of both Vhembe and Makhado Municipalities, Chief Hendrick Musekwa of Musekwa village, Vhavenda King Mphephu Ramabulana and other stakeholders.
