Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu launches Rock Leadership Programme, 28 Nov
The Deputy Minister of Social Development, Mrs Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, in partnership with the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) will host a media launch of the Rock Leadership Programme on 28 November 2018.
The National Strategic Plan (NSP) 2017-2022 has mandated the Department of Social Development (DSD) to lead Goal 4 which seeks to address the social and structural drivers of HIV, TB and STIs. In order to achieve this, the Department has developed a collection of social and behaviour change (SBC) programmes to promote positive behavioural outcomes that are critical in altering the course of the HIV epidemic.
These SBC programmes include YOLO, Men Championing Change as well as Boys Championing Change which seek to address risky sexual behaviours such as early sexual experimentation, multiple sexual partners and intergenerational sex.
As part of the SBC programmes, the Department has developed the Rock Leadership Programme which focuses on traditional leaders as partners in the prevention of new HIV infections and other social ills. The traditional leaders also head tribal councils that preside over issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), domestic violence and family disintegration.
Members of the media are invited to a media briefing during which traditional leaders and the Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu will discuss the programme scheduled as follows:
