Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, will visit the Vilakazi precinct in Soweto to commemorate Human Rights Day.
Human Rights Day is observed annually on 21 March in honor of the fallen struggle stalwarts who lost their lives in 1960 during a peaceful protest in Sharpeville against the apartheid regime.
The 2021 Human Rights Day takes place at the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic under the theme “The year of Charlotte Maxeke: promoting human rights in the Age of COVID-19.” Commemorative activities will highlight and acknowledge the pivotal role played by women in the liberation struggle, whilst fostering greater social cohesion, nation building and a shared national identity.
Minister Kubayi-Ngubane will visit the Vilakazi Precinct to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism business, and adherence to the prescribed health protocols. Her visit will also include stopovers at women-owned establishments to handover PPE to encourage compliance to regulations as we work to revive tourism.
