Deputy Minister Reginah Mhaule hosts 160th commemoration of arrival of first Indian labourers in South Africa, 3 Dec

Basic Education Deputy Minister Dr Reginah Mhaule will tomorrow, Thursday 3 December 2020, together with Teacher Development stakeholders host the 160th commemoration of the arrival of the first Indian labourers in South Africa while also celebrating teachers from all walks of life at Beacon Ridge Primary School in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The Teacher Appreciation and Support Programme (TASP) celebrates South African Teachers from the different backgrounds and was launched as a collaborative effort by the DBE, SACE, Teacher Unions, ETDP - SETA and Provincial Departments of Education (PEDs).

The role of TASP is to enhance the DBE’s efforts of teacher development and support, which is one of the major focal areas of the sector. It is in this context that the DBE, will through TASP host this commemorative event in recognition of the Indian teachers who selflessly server their communities.
