Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries embarks on a supply chain management procurement plan awareness drive

The Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries will over the next few weeks be embarking on a series of nationwide supply chain management workshops to raise awareness about the department's procurement plans and possible business opportunities available in the Department for the 2020/21 financial year.

With more than 1 500 projects valued at approximately R2.7 billion, the department will require the delivery of goods and services as well as services related to construction and infrastructure projects within the next financial year 2020/21.

The workshops are intended to promote fair, equitable, transparent, competitive and cost-effective procurement processes as dictated by the Constitution. “We want to assure all our prospective service providers, especially the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) that all our processes will be open and transparent.

We are doing this with a full knowledge of the role SMMEs play towards reduction of unemployment, poverty and inequality, in line with the National Development Planning (NDP) Vision 2030,” said Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy.

All projects valued above R500 000 will be advertised for a period of 21 days on various platforms including the national media, government tender bulletins and the department’s website. Suppliers are encouraged to continually visit these platforms. Projects valued below R500 000 will be executed through a request for quotation (RFQ) process sourced from qualifying service providers listed on the government’s central supplier database (CSD).

At the workshops, prospective service providers will also be assisted with registration on the CSD. In order to successfully register, suppliers must bring valid CIPC company registration documents, proof of bank account, proof of tax registration and a BEE certificate or sworn affidavit.
