Social Development hosts Non-Profit Organisation roadshows in Eastern Cape, 12 to 15 Aug

The Department of Social Development starts in earnest its Non-Profit Organisation roadshow in the Eastern Cape to encourage compliance with the NPO Act.

Last week, the Department of Social Development announced that it had embarked on a nationwide roadshow which will run for two years to make sure that all organizations registered in terms on the NPO Act, comply with the provisions of the Act.

Over the past 25 years, the Department has witnessed a tremendous growth of the NPO sector.

In the Eastern Cape alone, 19 495 organisations have registered and 11 809 of those are non-compliant. In the country, 211 208 are registered; 132 025 are non-compliant and 56 000 have failed to submit their annual reports.

The Department is the custodian of the Act which provides for voluntary registration, establishes administrative and regulatory framework within which NPOs can conduct their affairs. To make compliance less burdensome on NPOs, the Department will be in the following areas in the Eastern Cape:

Monday: 12 August, 2019
221 Power Street, Engcobo

Tuesday: 13 August, 2019
Lady Frere

Wednesday: 14 August 2019
Dugmore Hall, 15 Prince Alfred Street, Queenstown

Thursday: 15 August 2019
15 Prince Alfred Street, Queenstown

All organisations in these areas are encouraged to update their details, verify their NPO status and submit annual reports. NPOs that wish to deregister can also do so.
