Sports, Arts and Culture hosts dialogue on Preservation, Revitalization and the Promotion of Indigenous Languages, 23 Sept

The National Department of Sports, Arts and Culture will on Monday, 23 September 2019 host a Heritage Month Social Cohesion Dialogue on the preservation, development and usage of Indigenous Languages. The dialogue will take place at the Paballelo Michael Bongela Community Hall, ZF Mgcawu District Municipality in Upington, Northern Cape Province. This year’s dialogue is hosted under the theme, “Celebrating South Africa’s Literary Classics in the Year of Indigenous Languages”.

In line with UNESCO’s declarations of 2019 as, “the Year of Indigenous Languages”, the Heritage Month Social Cohesion Dialogue will provide a platform for South African citizens from different racial and cultural backgrounds to deliberate on variety of issues affecting the use and the development of indigenous languages in the Northern Cape and the country at large.

This platform will also allow panelists, and audience to robustly engage on ways in which indigenous languages can be preserved, revitalized and promoted in order to enhance tolerance, nation building and social inclusion.
