SIU engages with stakeholders in Eastern Cape, 21 Nov

SIU returns to its roots in the Eastern Cape

As part of celebrating its 25th anniversary milestone, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) will be tracing its roots in the Eastern Cape.

The roots of the SIU are planted in 1995 by Judge Willem Heath and the Heath Commission of Inquiry. It started off when the then Eastern Cape Premier, Raymond Mhlaba, in 1995 tasked Judge Heath to lead a commission of inquiry tasked with investigating incidents of fraud, corruption, and maladministration.

The effective results and achievements of the Heath Commission were noticed by President Nelson Mandela, and immediately saw an opportunity to establish a similar institution that will fight corruption in the Government. And so, the SIU was born in 1997.

The SIU is going back to its roots in the Eastern Cape for a stakeholder engagement and affirming its position of STRIKING AGAINST CORRUPTION.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the stakeholder engagement to be addressed jointly by SIU Head, Adv. Andy Mothibi and Premier Oscar Mabuyane as follows:
